제 6과 ~이다(to be)Learn Korean/A1 2022. 10. 11. 20:12
"이다" is used to express that the subject and predicate are the same things.
"이다" can also be used to specify something. The corresponding semi-formal forms : "예요"/"이에요."
The predicate and interrogative forms use the same form, and the interrogative form is 예요?/이에요?Let's look at the picture above. As you can see, there are 4 differents fruits and vegetable.
How can you introduce that fruits and vegetable in Korean?. We can use the "예요"/"이에요" format.- 사과(Apple)예요. This is apple.
- 오렌지(Orange)예요. This is Orange.
- 당근이에요. This is carrot.
- 바나나예요 This is Banana.
N 이에요/예요 can be used to ask a question also. When you want to ask a question, raise the intonation at the end of the sentence. For example,
- 사과(Apple)예요? Is this apple?
- 오렌지(Orange)예요? Is this Orange?
- 당근이에요? Is this carrot?
- 바나나예요? Is this Banana?
with rising intonation, it becomes a question sentence.
When can we use "예요"/"이에요"?
N "예요"/"이에요" are sentence endings expressing indentification and are attached to nouns.
If Nouns that finish with a vowel, 예요 is added -> 안나예요(I am Anna),
And for nouns that end with a consonant, 이에요 is added -> 마이클이에요(I am Michle).
